MMA GLOVES
Mixed Martial Arts gloves come in two basic types; MMA Gloves for Sparring or Competition. REVGEAR's Gloves have become known worldwide as the best in the fight business.
The Original Martial Arts Brand, Revgear are extensively used by top Mixed Martial Arts athletes such as Arnold Allen, Henry Cejudo and George Hardwick to name but a few.
The accepted standard for Competition is a 4oz glove first introduced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 13 after many fighters were injuring their hands fighting bare knuckle. This is why some people in the UK still refer to this style of Glove as UFC gloves. The glove was designed to allow a full range of motion in both stand up and grappling however only offers only minimal protection for both striker and opponent.
The larger MMA Sparring glove also referred to as “Puffies”, Amateur & training gloves range between 6ozand 8oz in weight usually depending on the hand size. There are a few versions of this glove but the accepted version by most clubs and athletes is the Classic MMA Sparring glove.
Revgear have been producing a high quality version of this glove for almost 15 years which is universally acclaimed as one of the best in the business. 4oz (KIDS), 6oz & 8oz MMA Gloves available.
MMA grappling gloves are specialised gloves used in mixed martial arts. They have open fingers for better gripping and executing grappling techniques. Whilst they provide padding for hand protection during strikes but are much thinner than boxing gloves. They range between 4 and 7oz.
Wrist support is included for stability, and they are lightweight to enhance mobility. Constructed with durable materials, these gloves vary in design based on organisation rules. Largely this is the same nowadays as a competition glove although training versions are available such as the Deluxe Pro.
It should be noted no Mixed Martial Arts Gloves are ideal for bag or pad work with the exception of the Deluxe pro.
These Gloves are a specialised piece of kit specific to the sport. They should be accompanied by either a quality bag mitt or boxing glove for training on bags and pads except on the run up to competition.
REVGEAR recommends use of Air Mitt Pro for MMA padwork with MMA gloves.
Yes, it is generally recommended to wear hand wraps with 4oz, 6oz & 8oz gloves. Hand wraps are an additional layer of protection that fighters use to support and stabilise their wrists, reinforce the knuckles, and provide some padding to the hands.
They help to reduce the risk of hand and wrist injuries during training and competition. Hand wraps also assist in absorbing sweat and keeping the hands in place within the gloves, which can improve comfort and prevent the gloves from shifting during intense grappling exchanges.
